Hi all! Hope you're enjoying your summer! I had wanted to go back packing this summer over in Europe. But then I discussed it with Harold. Well, he got this new hobby -- collecting seeds. We're not supposed to travel until he has the 2,000 varieties cataloged. Don't ask me, I just live here! But all is groovy; it gives me more time to surf the Internet and find more fun stuff for all you neat people. Now down to details:
This month I wanted to talk to you about Michael Ansara, a.k.a. the Blue Djinn! As all die-hard "Jeannie" fans know, Michael was married to Barbara Eden, our star, for about 15 years. They had one son together, Matthew, during the run of "I Dream of Jeannie." Michael has had a long career as a character actor, and you can see him in many different movies and TV shows. Some shows you may have seen him and wondered where you knew him from include "Fantasy Island," "The Fall Guy," "CHiPs," "Star Trek," "Bewitched," "Lost in Space," "Ben Casey," and the list can go on and on...
Michael Ansara appeared in three "I Dream of Jeannie" episodes. He appeared as the Blue Djinn in Episode 31, "Happy Anniversary" (aired 9/12/66), as King Kamehameha in Episode 76, "Battle of Waikiki" (aired 1/2/68), and as Biff Jellico in Episode 125, "My Sister the Home Wrecker" (aired 12/9/69).
Today I want to highlight one movie he starred in with his beautiful wife, Barbara Eden. The movie is "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea," released in 1961, written and directed by Irwin Allen. The cast is filled with many stars, including Walter Pidgeon, Joan Fontaine, Barbara Eden, Peter Lorre, Robert Sterling, Frankie Avalon and, of course, Michael Ansara. "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" is a sci-fi adventure about a brand-new atomic submarine. The crew gets pushed to their limits as a radiation belt catches fire. Michael plays a character named Alvarez in the flick.
And guess what? This film will run on TV in just a couple of days. Look for it Saturday, July 22 at 4pm on Cinemax #2 (MAX2). If you miss it on Cinemax, you should be able to find a copy at your local video store without too much trouble.
I always try to find a groovy link to share with you wonderful people. If you remember your childhood TV you might remember this: http://members.aol.com/horemheb/josiemusic.htm and maybe you remember this, too: http://www.fiftiesweb.com/annette.htm. Enjoy, and see you all next month! Love, Peace & Happiness, ~Suzie Shaeffer
