THE DOBERMAN PINSCHER
CLUB OF
WESTERN NEW YORK

The Doberman Pinscher Club of Western New York held their first specialty in Hamlin, New York in July 1993. The specialty was part of the Rochester Specialty Club. A number of local breed clubs with different breeds got together and each held their specialty on the same day, at the same location. After a couple years we left this event due to the small attendance and the great cost.
Next we joined the Wyoming Valley Kennel Club at the Rainbow Circuit to have our specialty. This was a four day circuit with the Kennel Club of Niagara Falls hosting two days, Wyoming Valley Kennel Club hosting one day and the last day was hosted by the Olean Kennel Club. This was a much better move financially for our small club. Our specialty was held in February at the Niagara Falls convention center and they were all quite successful. The club managed to have a major every year we were there. Then in 2002 the convention center was turned into a casino and there was to be no more dog shows at this location.
The Kennel Club of Niagara falls decided to join forces with the Buffalo Kennel Club and the Ashtabula Kennel Club., they were already having shows in January at the Agriculture building in Hamburg, New York. The clubs decided to hold a 4 day circuit and call it the Nickel City Circuit. Kennel Club of Niagara Falls asks us to go with them. We had our first specialty with this circuit in 2003.
We will once again in 2004 have our specialty as part of the Nickel City Circuit. Our specialty will be held Jan 9 a Friday. When you hold a specialty you have all the regular dog show classes, but you have more. You have a sweepstakes where puppies compete for Best Junior (puppies 6 months – 12 months of age) and Best Senior (puppies 12 months – 18 months of age) puppy in Sweeps then those two compete against each other for Best Puppy In Sweeps. You also have veteran classes (animals over 7 years of age), stud dog class (the stud dog and two of his get), and brood bitch class (the brood bitch and two of her get) that are not part of a regular dog show.
When you compete at a specialty you compete for more than just ribbons. Usually there is a prize for each animal that takes a first in class, a prize for winners dog, one for winners bitch, one for Best of Breed and also Best of winners and Best of Opposite sex. These prizes are nice but of course everyone that enters is looking for the points toward their championship title.
The Doberman Pinscher Club of Western New York is giving the following prizes at their 2004 specialty January 9, 2004 in Hamburg, New York.

The WAE is a temperament test for Doberman Pinschers and when a Doberman passes the WAE the animal receives the Working Aptitude Certificate (WAC) A Doberman must have their championship title, a working title, and their WAC to attain a Register of Merit (ROM).
The WAE test protective nature and their friendliness as well as their recovery to different stimulus. You can read more about the WAE at www.DPCA.org.
